Day5 Baruto vs Takekaze (Hatsu-Basho 2012 Jan)

大相撲 初場所 第5日目。両国国技館。
Grand Sumo Tournament Hasu-Basho Day5 2012/1/12 Thursday.

Baruto(4-0) has Maegashira #1 Takekaze(1-3).
Takekaze won 3 times to Batuo in all past 8 bouts.

Start:"Haridashi"
Baruto continued to push effectively but Takekaze aimed "Inashi" to Baruto left pushing.
Baruto lost ballance and Takekaze came inside.
Baruto somehow managed Takekaze pressure by right arm lock.

And reversely Baruto attacked by both arm pushing(="Moroteduki")

Ozeki Baruto W(OSHIDASHI)L Takekaze Maegashira#1

Baruto keeps no defeats record after 2010 July tournament.

Day2 Baruto vs Okinoumi (Hatsu-Basho 2012 Jan)

大相撲 初場所 第2日目 両国国技館。2012/1/9 Monday.
Grand Sumo Tournament Hatsu-Basho Day2 @ Ryogoku Kokugikan

Baruto meets Maegashira #1 Okinoumi.
Baruto records 2 wins 1 defeat against Okinoumi.
Baruto was defeated in last Kyushu-Basho 2011 Nov, by Yorikiri.

Start:Both arms pushing.Pulling tactics was not so bad.
Left "Ottuke" was effective.

Ozeki Baruto W(OSHIDASHI)L Okinoumi Maegashira #1

2wins 0 losses.

Baruto makes a good beginning of this touranment!!

Day1 Baruto vs Miyabiyama (Hatsu-basho 2012 Jan)

Grand Sumo Tournament Hatsu-Basho Day1 at Ryougoku Kokugikan.
大相撲 初場所 第1日 両国国技館。

Baruto meets former Ozeki Miyabiyama.
Miyabiyama marked 11 wins 4 defeats in last Kyushu-Basho 2011 Nov.
And returns to Komusubi after 5 years.
I think this is first record the "Rikishi" come back to "Sanyaku"(=upper than Komusubi rnak) after 5 years.

Baruto's record against Miyabiyama stands at 9 wins and 5 defeats.
"Kensho"(=winners prize) flags were 14.
I think many flags is kind of tip for new years.

Baruto chose a pushing start.
Miyabiyama is also pusher but he is puller.
Push and pull is Miyabiyama's special tactics.

Baruto was caught by this tactics.
But today Baruto could stay inside the ring!
I think Baruto supposed Maiyabiyama pulling.

Baruto re-attacked well.
Step work was unstable and waist positioned highly.
But pushing focused well.
Baruto plused his weight 4 kg but his motion looks sharp.

No defeats give Baruto a rythem.

Ozeki Baruto w(OSHIDASHI)L Miyabiyama Komusubi

1 win 0 defeats.

Day6 vs Wakanosato (Kugatsu-Bahsho 2011 Sep)

Nice pushing and good waist position and nice foot work. Ozeki Baruto W(Oshidashi)L wakanosato Maegashira#2 4 wins 2 losts. Baruto is getting better!!

Day4 vs Okinoumi (Kugatsu-Bahso 2011 Sep)

Better than yesterday. Okinoumi does not have speed. Baruto could push well. Today`s pushing style looked very powerful. Because Pushing orbit started from inside. Inside means elbows were not wide. And waist position should be lower and Footworks shuold attached to ground. This is all we japanese sumo fans want Baruto to do. Ozeki Baruto W(Oshidashi)L Okinoumi Maegashira #1 2 wins 2 losts

Day4 vs Aminishiki (Tech-Exam 2011 May)

Day4 Baruto has 2-1 Maegashira #3 Aminishiki.
Nothing to say,Aminishiki is very skillful sumotori.

In yesterday's bout interview,Baruto commented "This tournament is half serious"
"I can not concentrate",newspapers and TV news reported.
I think this comment was over reporeted by media but this comment brought a big sensation to Japanese and Sumo funs in this circumstances.

All I want is Baruto express himself by wins.

Uuuuuum,good fight!!!
Baruto was full of energy.
Rushing power was amazing.
I think Baruto fought against irresponsible media report.

Ozeki BARUTO ○(OSHIDASHI)× AMINISHIKI Maegashira#3
3wins 1 lost.

Day8 vs (Hatsu-Basho 2011 Jan)

Grand Sumo Tournament Hatsu-Basho Day8.

Baruo fights against Maegashira #4 Homasho.
He is Japanese and very gentle wrestler.
He always bowed deeply after bout.

Baruto likes this kind of big target wrestler.

E-
Homasho started at the edge of ring!!!
I think Homasho did not want to be got Baruto's full pressure .
So Baruto started slowly and easily focused on Homasho
and gave elbow &shoulder attacked to Homasho.
Homasho had already stood the edge and Homasho was in pinch and upset.
Baruto continued to push and rush forwards.

His step works were still not good but wins are the best medicine now.

M4_Homasho4-4 (oshidashi) W-O_Baruto7-1 ○

7 wins 1 lose(by Toyonoshima)

Day8 vs Kitataiki (Kyushu-Basho 2010 Nov)

Grand Sumo Tournament Kyushu-Basho Day8 (="Naka-bi")

Baruto has Maegashira #3 Kitataiki.
Kitataiki means "Kita"(=north) "Tai"(=big) "Ki" (=tress)
Kitataiki means North big tree.
He is from Tokyo.
So North sounds something strange.
Do you know why?

The answer is Kitataiki belongs to stable "Kitano-umi-Beya".
His master is former great Yokozuna and former leader of "Sumo Kyokai" "KITANO-UMI".

Baruto pressed the opponent with full power.
Stepping work was still "Batabata".
Baruto's aggressive attitude to push away Kitataiki after passing the edge was very mere for him.
I felt Baruto was getting better day by day.

7 wins 1 lose.

Come on,Baruto!!!

By the way,Kitataiki was pushed away (="Dame-dashi") yesterday by Hakuho....
Kitataiki's attitude made opponent irritated, didn't he?

Day8 vs Tochiozan (Kugatsu-Basho 2010 Sep)

Grand Sumo Tournament Kugatsu-basho DAY8 ("NAKA-BI"=mid day)

Baruto takes on Sekiwake Tochiozan (6-1).
Tochiozan this tournament starts very quickly and rushes with lower position.

Baruto showed "Haridashi"(=slap opponent cheek at start) and stopped Tochiozan rushing.
And got right outside grip!!

Baruto made his body lower with his head lower (="Atama wo tukeru) and also "Ottuke"(=tighten arms and push opponent armpit).
Tochiozan could not keep his body lower and Baruto pushed Tochis' breast easily.
Finally Baruto aggressively pushed Tochi after ring out ("Dame-dashi).

These days Baruto showed this kind of aggressive manner.
Baruto is considered as a vey gentle and polite wrestler than others.
So some Japanese sumo fans are surprised ,others think Baruto's this change is menace Baruto feels Ozeki rank responsibility and his will to get Emperor's trophy.

I think Baruto is getting better for 2 days bouts.
Step work and body position were paid attention.

Ozeki BARUTO ○(OSHIDASHI)× TOCHIOZAN sekiwake

7 wins 1 lose.

Tomorrow Baruto has Ozeki Kaio.
Kaio is now edge of cliff but Baruto have to crash him..

Day7 vs Tochinoshin (Kugatsu-Basho 2010 Sep)

Grand Sumo Touranmaent Kugatsu-Bahso Day 7

Baruto meets Georgian Tochinoshin.
Japanese sumo fans think his sumo style is a traditional sumo style.
His stable "Kasugano" is very famous as strict.

I think this bout is the Baruto's best one in this tournament.
Step works were really getting better.
Pushing power was carried from lower body stability.

Ozeki BAUTO ○(OSHIDASHI)× TOCHINOSHIN Maegashira#2

6 wins 1 lose!!

Tomorrow Baruto meets sekiwake 6-1 Tochiozan.
Tochiozan this tournament keeps his good start and lower postion rushing.
I think tomorrow's bout is touch stone.

Day6 vs Aran (Kugatsu-Basho 2010Sep)

Grand Sumo Tournament Kugatsu-Basho Day6

Baruto meets Rusian Sekiwake Aran.
Both European Rikishi(=wrestler) are full of incredible power.
I think Gerogian Tochinoshin is classical sumo type.
But Aran and Baruto use their body size merit.

Today's Baruto pushed Aran after he off the ring.("dame dashi")
Baruto actually never does this kind of dame dashi.
I think Aran expressed much aggressive attitude to baruto during start.

Anyway Baruto keeps 1 lose.
Hakuho is unbeatable yokozuna keeping straight win.
But we know Baruto is the man to stop Hakuho in this turnament.

Ozeki BARUTO ○(OSHIDASHI)× ARAN Sekiwake

Day3 vs Tokitenku (Kugatsu-Basho 2010 Jan)

Grand Sumo Tournament Kugatsu-Basho Day3

Baruto fights against Tokitenku.
Tokitenku is from Mongol and ranked Megashira #1.
Toki(=時)means time.
TenKu(=天空)means the sky.

Past result between Baruto and Tokitenku is3wins' Baruto and no win's Tokitenku.
Last bou in July Tournament (Click t video) was "Yotsu-Sumo"(=grip belts each other).

Baruto succeeded in starting and rapid pushing(="Tsuki Hanshi").
Pushing today was full of power.
Waist position and stepping work has still a room of improvement.
But chasing to Hakuho and no lose in early days of tournament is very important.

Grand Sumo Tournament Gogatsu-Basho Day9

Barut fights against Ozeki Kaio.
Baruto is 7 wins 1 lose.
Kaio is 5 wins 3 loses.
Past is Baruto 4 wins and Kaio 5 wins.
But In past 6 tournaments,Baruto is 3 wins 2 loses.

Baruto did not push at "tachiai"(=starting).
Baruto tried to grip bels but he could not.
If Baruto fastened to change this situation,he would lose today.
But Baruto waited for chance.
Ozeki Kaio was lack of stamina.
Baruto gradually gave pressure to Kaio.
At last he threw "Kotenage" and made Kaio losing control and pushed out of ring.

Ozeki BARUTO ○(OSHIDASHI)× KAIO Ozeki

8 wins 1 lose.
Baruto has gotten "KACHIKOSHI"(=8 over wins).

Day13 vs Aminishiki (Hatsu-Basho 2010 Jan)

Grand Sumo Tournament Hatsu-Basho Day13 (Friday)
大相撲 初場所 十三日目

3 losers have a chance to get "Yusho"

Both Aminishiki and Baruto are 9 wins 3 loses.

Aminishiki has a his sumo style.

Baruto lost his "Tachiai"(=starting).
High waist position and dull stepping forward.

Aminishiki attached his head to Baruto and rush forwars.

It seems to be end of Baruto.

But Baruto tried to throw by his left arm.
Oh,my! Bauto body was dead body but Aminishiki's arm reached to grand almost same timing.

The referee judged BAruto win.
The judges raised their hands to claim "Monoiri".

After the judges meeting, head judge announced "Dou Tai"(=same timing)
and "Torinaoshi"(=re-bout).

I think Baruto had time to reflect his startng at first bout.
Baruto did a good "Tachiai" with low and quick stepping.

Aminishiki could not do anything this time.

Baruto still has a chance to get "Yousho"

sekiwake BARUTO ○(OSHIDASHI)× AMINISHIKI maegashira#6

Day7 vs Aminishiki (Kugatsu-Basho 2009 Sep)

Komusubi Aminishiki is a top Kinboshi holder of defeating Asashoryu.
Yesterday Aminishiki slightly defeated Asashoryu.
Aminishiki is not a easy wrestler for Baruto to defeat.

Baruto in this tournament is gaining new style.
It is rushing forward quickly without belt grabbing.
"Ottuke" is also remarkably efficient.

Today Baruto showed very aggressive rushing sumo.
Aminishiki could not do anything.

uuuuumm,Baruto!
You can reach to Ozeki if you master this style,I am convinced.

komusubi BARUTO ○(OSHIDASHI)× AMINISHIKI komusubi

5 wins 2 looses.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Ozeki Kotooshu and Kotomitsuki belong to same stable(=HEYA) SADOGATAKE.
Both ozekis have been thought to be too kind and too gentle to be Yokozuna.
But they had changed their fights after last tournament.
We felt their mind had changed.
Newspapers said they did "Keiko"(=daily exercise) almost double quantity.

They are aiming to be Yokozuna from bottom of their hearts,I think.
So we can not neglect their bouts.

Kotomitsuki got 7th win today (Click to YouTube HD)
But Kotooshu lost today (Click to YouTubeHD)

Baruto has not fought against them yet.

You don't miss it!!

September 14, 2009

Day2 vs Harumafuji (Kugatsu-Basho 2009 Sep)

Harumafuji is Ozeki and first candidate for Yokozuna.
He is from Mongol.

Baruto did bad sumo yesterday.
Todays's bout is very important for Baruto.

Baruto vs Harumafuji(CLICK HERE TO YouTube HD)

Baruto fought very aggressively .
You can watch his face.

Perfect win!

We can feel Baruto's Sumo scale today.

Day3 vs Kakuryu (Gogatsu-Basho 2009 May)

Kakuryu is a new born Komusubi.
He is mongolian with 185 cm tall, 138 kg.

Congratulation !!! Kaido!!!

You think too much about how to fight until yesterday.
As you know, Sumo is very simple sports.

You have long legs ,,,,but you should make your body lower with knee benting.
You have long arms,,,but you should make your arms tightly attaching to your bodyside.
You have huge body sizw,,,,but you should not forget rush forward not to wait for opponent rushing.

Today you sumo very smartly.

Today is the day you start a Gogatsu-Basho with new idea.

sekiwake BARUTO ○(OSHIDASHI)× KAKURYU komusubi

  1win 2 losses.

March 15, 2009

Day1 vs Miyabiyama(Haru-Basho 2009 March)

Miyabiya is maegashira #3 ranker well known as a former Ozeki in his younger days.
His fighting style is pusher.

I think Baruto loves this type fighter.
Miyabiyama = Big target.
Miyabiyama = rush straightly no change on start.

Baruto's rushing power completely struck Miyabiyama's body out of Dohyo(= ring).

sekiwake BARUTO ○(OSHIDASHI)× MIYABIYAMA maegashira#3
