Day15 vs Kotoshogiku (Nagoya-Basho 2009 July)

Today's bout has a big meaning for Baruto fans.

If Baruto won today,he marks 11 wins.
It means Baruto will be Komusubi next tournament.
And also it means this tournament is beginning for promoting to Ozeki.

To promote to Ozeki, a wrestler is needed at least over 33wins before promotion.

What an amazing Sumo!
Baruto passed 11 wins line!

In this tournament,He did not fight against Yokozuna.
And no wins were gotten from Ozekis.

So the fact Baruto defeated Kisenosato sekiwake and Kotoshogiku komusubi is very important.

maegashira #3 BARUTO ○(TSURIDASHI)× Kotoshogiku komusubi

Thank for showing a lot of aggressive bout here,BARUTO!

Let's start for tomorrow YOKOZUNA!

Day14 vs Kisenosato (Nagoya-Basho 2009 July)

Today Komusubi Kotoshogiku got "Kachikoshi".
Also Maegashira #5 Aminishiki got 11 wins today.

Sekiwake Kisenosato has already passed the "Kachikoshi" line.

Sekiwake Kyokutenho and Komusubi Kakuryu could not passed "Kachikoshi".

This condition tells us outline of next tournament ranking.

Sekiwakes are Kisenosato and Kotoshogiku.
Komusubis are Aminishiki and ,,,,,,,,who?

If Baruto passed 10wins line,Baruto will be "Who".

Past results between them are 5win's Baruto and only 1 win's Kisenosato.

This time was also typical bout between them.

Oh,Great,Baruto!

You marked 10 wins!

I think you need 1more win for next Ozeki .

To be a next KOMUSUBI "

Baruto has already marked 9 wins.

Kachikoshi Makekoshi Not yet
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
sekiwake Kisenosato Kakuryu
komusubi Kyokutenho Kotoshogiku
#1 Aran,Goeido
#2 Tochiozan,Toyohibiki
#3 Baruto Iwakiyama
#4 Miyabiyama,Takamisakari
#5 Aminishiki,Tochinoshin
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
If Baruto can not get more win,his score is 9 wins.
The points are
1) Kotoshogiku will Kachikoshi or not.
In the case of Makekoshi,Baruto should be Komusubi upper.
Because 1 sekiwake rank and at least 1 komusubi rank will be vacant.
Baruto will fill these positions.

Other elements are
2)Kakuryu will get 7 wins or not. there will be possibility to be Koumusubi Kakuryu
3)Aminishiki will get wins more than 12.

Anyway ,only have to do for Baruto,is to plus more wins.
Baruto will fight against Kisenosato tomorrow.
And final day ,Baruto will fight against Kotoshogiku or Kakuryu or Kyokutenho.

Two days bouts will be title matches for Komusubi, I think.

Day13 vs Shotenro (Nagoya-Basho 2009 July)

Shoterno is from Mongol ,27 years old,189cm tall wrestler.

Today is first bout between them.

Shoternro had no fear of Baruto's power.
This was his failure.

Baruto got his Sumo style easily.
He could pull up Shotenro with full power.

maegashira #3 BARUTO ○(TSURIDASHI)× SHOTENRO maegashira #10

Baruto got 9th win in this tournament.
In order to get higher ranking in the next tournament,Baruto have to earn WINS as much as possible.

GOOOOO! BARUTO!!

July 22, 2009

Day11 vs Harumafuji (Nagoya-Basho 2009 July)

Harumafuji has scored 7 wins 3 losses until yesterday.
Also Baruto has scored 7 wins 3 losses until yesterday.

Both challenge "KACHIKOSHI"(=8 over wins) today.

Both chose pushing start.
I guess Harumafuji did not want "Yotsu Sumo".

Baruto pushed with his armpit tightly.
It was good to push without loosing his power.

Once lighter Harumafuji was pushed to the edge of "DOHYO"(=ring).
But Baruto ,I don't know why, gave him up to continue to push Harumafuji....

Harumafuji got the chance to countersttack....

maegashira #3 BARUTO ×(OSHITAOSHI)○ HARUMAFUJI ozeki

Baruto today could see the opponent movement clearly.
He got the opponent in his nest.

"Improve TACHIAI (=STARTING) " Video

In Tachiai ,Kotooshu keeps his upper trunk parallel to grand and step forward.
Baruto lifts his upper trunk up and show his breast.

This is the great difference between them.

Kotooshu also grab front part of opponent's belt(=MAWASHI).
This position is so-called "Maemitsu"

I think Maemitsu is a good tactic for a small wrestler to fight against bigger wrestler.
If Maemitsu position is grabed, opponent is lifted up and lost his ballance.

For a big RIKISHI,it is ususally no need to keep a lower head position,
because he can receive opponent power with his heavy weight.

But this is the trap that a big Rikishi fallen.

In order to go up a high ranking,a big Rikishi return to basic.
He needs to forget his body merit once.

Kotoshu's Tachiai is really good example.

I think Kotooshu is building up his lower part of body power.
So he can keep his head and trunk position lower and his big body power is not wasted.

July 19, 2009

Day8 vs Kotooshu (Nagoya-Basho 2009 July)

Kotooshu has marked 7 wins until yesterday.
Baruto has marked 6 win until yesterday.

Both European wrestler (=RIKISHI) have almost 200cm tall!!

I applaud you Baruto!

Nice FIGHT!!!

Even if you lost today, you played directly with "YOTSU=SUMO".
Today's bout showed Baruto and Kotooshu skills are quite different.
We knew it.
But we want you Baruto to be a Yokozuna in the future.
Only you do now is to shape your skills up through you losing bout.

How to defeat Ozeki Kotooshu!!!

Tomorrow Baruto fights against Ozeki Kotooshu.

Past 1year results are as follows,

When Baruto got 2 wins,Kotooshu's conditions were not well.

Recent three bouts which Baruto was defeated were they fought with pushing each other at starting.

I think Baruto did not want to fight with YOTSU-SUMO(=grasping belt style).
Baruto seemed to feel fear Kotooshu's huge body.
Baruto ordinary use his huge body when he fights with smaller wrestler than he.
So when he fights against a huge body wrestler , he tends to fight with pushing style.
This is a good tactic for now Baruto.

But I hope Baruto should master Kotooshu's YOTSU style.

In this tournament, Kotooshu's start is very quick with low position.
I think Kotooshu's style is a good example for Baruto.

Both Baruto and Kotooshu have huge bodies.
Huge body has a merit side and a demerit side.

The point to use his size as a merit is STARTING(=TACHIAI) with low position and quick forward step(=FUMIKOMI).

DON'T be afraid of failing,BARUTO!
Let us show your YOTSU-SUMO tomorrow!

Day7 vs Toyonoshima (Nagoya-Basho 2009 July)

Today's opponet Toyonoshima is Maegashira#7 ranker.
He was thought to be Ozeki candidate in the past.
He got elbow injury and he lost his style for several tournament.

Last bout between Baruto and Toyonoshima was Baruto's win by way of YORIKIRI in 2009 Jan tournament.

Past result was Baruto's 5 wins 0 losses.

Baruto took his time to finish because he got both hands over of Toyonoshima's belt.

Maegashira#3 BARUTO ○(UWATENAGE)× TOYONOSHIMA maegashira#7

6 wins 1 loss.

Tomorrow Baruto will fight against OZEKI KOTOOSHU.

Day6 vs Tamanoshima (Nagoya-Basho 2009 July)

today's opponent Tamanoshima is Maegashira #6 ranker.
Last bout between them was Tamanoshima win by way of YORIKIRI at 2009 May tournament.
You can see it from link below,
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RVXsgbemhf8

Tamanoshima is not young but his rushing style is still strong.

Baruto did choose a good tactic.
Baruto suceeded in stopping Tamanoshima rushing .

maegashira #3 BARUTO ○(HAKIKOMI)× TTAMANOSHIMA margashira #6

4 wins 1 loss.

Go! Baruto!

Day4 vs Tochinoshin (Nagoya-Basho 2009 July)

Tochinoshin is from Gruziya.
Today is first bout between them.

In starting,Baruto tried to push with "HAZE-OSHI".
This was a good tactic for him.

maegashira#3 BARUTO ○(TSURIDASHI)× TOCHINOSHIN maegashira #5

3wins 1 loss.

July 14, 2009

Day3 vs Aminshiki (Nagoya-Basho 2009 July)

Baruto's starting has two problems.

One is a high waist position.
Second is "Waki ga amai".

Waki ga amai is a kind of techical word in Sumo.

Waki means arm pit.
Amai means to loose to do something.

it is difficult to say in English.

In starting,a wrestler should close his arms tightly.
But Baruto sometims makes his arm opened loosely.
In this case,an opponent easily get his position to win.

maegashira #3 BARUTO ×(OSHIDASHI)○ AMINISHIKI maegashira #5

Day2 vs Takamisakari (Nagoya-Basho 2009 July)

Today's opponent Takamisakari is a Maegashira#4 ranker.
He is very popular among Japanese.
He appeal to audiences.
Baruto grasped both UWATE (=over belt grasping).
He could pull up the opponent easily.

But today's Baruto starting was not good because his both arms opened loosely to be gotten inside by the opponent.

Both arms should be used for grasping front part of opponent belt.

maegashira #3 BARUTO ○(YORIKIRI)× TAKAMISAKARI maegashira #4

2wins 0 losses until today!!!

Go on ,Baruto!

Day1 vs Miyabiyama(Nagoya-Basho 2009 July)

Baruto is ranked Megashira #3.
He fell from sekiwake rank but Maegashira #3 raker fights against almost same wrestlers as sekiwake ranker.

This tournament is Baruto's touch stone time.
I think Baruto try to change his starting style.
Baruto use his scale merit .
Before last tournament,he started with static position and rush.
But today he started with declining forward with moving.
Good Tachiai(=start)

Hatakikomi today was not a bad .
He seems to be able to watch opponent motion.
