Baruto(9-0) fights against Sekiwake Toyonoshima(3-6).

Baruto has 12 wins 4 defeats record to Toyonoshima.
Baruto was defeated by Toyonoshima in las November tournament.

Baruto started in "Haridashi" and gripped right outside easily.
Baruto did not give Toyonoshima time to think and threw by right outside with locking Toyonoshima neck by left hand.
Baruto completely turned up Toyonoshima.

I think Baruto sumoes rythmically and automatically in this tournament.
10 straight wins  is same record as 2010 spring tournament one which Baruto made Ozeki promotion.

Baruto meets Toyonoshima on day1.

I think today's start was not so bad.
Baruto tried to grab belt and went forward.

But his waist position and foot works were careless ones.

Baruto should take breath and pause for small wrestlers after grabbing belt.

Toyonoshima always tries to capture napping.

His counter "sukuinage" is his trump card.

Kyushu-Bahso has started.

Hi everyone!

Today is the first day of Kyushu-Basho.
We have 4 major islands in japan.
Hokkaido Honshu Shikoku Kyushu.
Kyushu is located in south part of Japan.
Kyushu has 7 prefectures.
Fukuoka,Oita,Saga,Miyazaki,Nagasaki,Kumamoto,Kagoshima.
This tournament is held in Hakata City where is the capital city of Fukuoka Pref.

If you want to go to Hakata from Tokyo,you need to ride on train or by air.
About 1 hour by air.
About 7 hours by Super Express train "Shinkansen".

By the way,
All stables are in or around Tokyo.
Baruto's sable "Onoe-Beya" is in "Ota-ku"(ku = ward).
Ota-ku is located in the west part of "Tokyo23ku"(=Tokyo central part has 23 wards and called so.)
And the "Onoe-beya" is placed in region called "Ikegami"

And I was born and brought up near Ikegami.

In this tournament ,we have some key words.

 Kisenosato and Kakuryu both sekiwake rankers are candidate of Ozeki promotion.

NEW
new born Ozeki Kotoshogiku can show his sumo or not.

Referee judged baruto win. But Baruto elbow down faster than Toyonoshima. After meeting "Monoiri" the judeges around ring confirmed Toyonoshima`s right foot touched to grand faster than Baruto elbow down. Ozeki Baruto W(Yorikiri)L Toyonoshima Komusubi 3 wins 2 losts.

Baruto(7-1) has Komusubi Toyonoshima(1-7).

Toyonoshima is loosing his sumo style in this tournament.

Baruto has passed 8 wins line.

Rushing forward steps work was good.

As I mentioned many times,Baruto tends to step like walking.

But Sumo step work should not make souls apart from ground.

Baruto steps work this tournament is like Sumo steps work(="suri-ashi")

And final pushing by his belly was very effective not to be counter-attacked at the edge of the ring.

Today is the begininning of 2011 Sumo Tournament.

First day, Baruto meets Maegashira#1 Toyonoshima who marked second position in last tournament,as you know.



Toyonoshima has only 170cm.
Small target.
Baruto chose pushing start for a small wrestler.
You know why?
Pls check last tournamet bout (click to movie).

I think Baruto had not wanted Toyonoshima to be inside.

Baruto kept chasing and pushing aggressively.

Lose is lose but this sumo style to rush forwards is voted by us.

Grand Sumo Tournament Kyushu-Basho Day12.

Baruto meets 10-1 Toyonoshima who is co-leader of this tournament.

Loser of this bout drops down from championship race.

Toyonoshima is a small Japanese wrestler but he has a good sumo skills to cover his physical scale.

Toyonoshima had been keeping status of Makuuchi top rank but he had bad contact with illegal gambling and got punished.

One tournament(2010July) was "Kinshin"and he dropped down to Jyuryo Division in last tournament(2010Sep).

He marked a good score in Jyuryo division.

He has returned to Makuuchi Division in this tournament.

I think this Jyuryo tour is not a bad experience for Toyonoshima.

Past result is Baruto's 9 wins 1 lose.

Toyonoshima took advantage of Baruto's bad step works in order to make Baruto unbalanced.

I think to grasp belt is the most safe way for Baruto to win.

Before bout, most of sumo fans thought Baruto would pulled up Toyonoshima out of ring.

But Toyonoshima rushed forward and his big belly did not allow Baruto to grasp belt....

Baruto grasped opponent bel by right hand over at the start.

Once Toyonoshima rushed forward but Baruto swang Toyonoshima with uplifting .

Baruto power was mightier than small Toyonoshima......

This tournament Baruto was lack of impact to sumo fans.

He had not defeated 2 Yokozunas yet.

He unfortunately prove his sumo style was not fixed.

High body start was a bad habit.

Every sumo fans wonder why he lost last tournament's pushing start.

Final score is 9wins 6 losses.

Last septenmber tournament Baruto marked 12wins.

Total wins are 21 wins par 2 tournaments at "SANYAKU"(=over komusubi rank) position.

As I said before,

I think he needs 14 over wins in next January tournament to promote to Ozeki.

Or over 12 wins with Emperor's trophy.

But the point is not only total wins but also the imapct to fans.

Baruto should be a wrestler to frighten Yokozuna and to defeat lower rankers surely.

Anyway We Baruto fans know he will be a Yokozuna someday.

Today's opponet Toyonoshima is Maegashira#7 ranker.

He was thought to be Ozeki candidate in the past.

He got elbow injury and he lost his style for several tournament.

Last bout between Baruto and Toyonoshima was Baruto's win by way of YORIKIRI in 2009 Jan tournament.

Past result was Baruto's 5 wins 0 losses.

Baruto took his time to finish because he got both hands over of Toyonoshima's belt.

He is not tall but has a very good skill.

This means Baruto knows how to cook a skilfull Rikishi.

In the TV,Baruto's master Onoe commented
"We are aiming to be an Ozeki".



Baruto got left hand over to Toyonoshima's belt soon.
And Baruto changed right arm position "over" to " under".
This skill is called "MAKIKAE".
Very skilfull!
Baruto got a his perfect sumo style and cook Toyonoshima easily.

Toyonoshima is Maegashira #1.

He has already beaten four OZEKIs in this tournament.

His score until yesterday was 4wins 1loss.

Toyonoshima is smaller wrestler than average wrestler.

But he has great skills.

Baruto is a bigger wrestler than other wrestler.

Usually a big wrestler depends on his physical merit in stead of  sharpening up his skills.

How does Baruto fight against Toyonoshima.

The result was Baruto win.

I could not believe Baruto's  way of logical fight.

Baruto has a good skill to cook a  small wrestler.

Perfect!!

They say Baruto's  ONOUE BEYA(=gym)  has a very small wrestler SATOYAMA.

That is why Baruto sharpened his skill through daily exercise with SATOYAMA.
