2012 Jan Grand Sumo Tournament Hatsu-Basho Day15 (final day).

Baruto(14-0) has Yokozuna Hakuho(12-3) today final day.

Baruto has beaten Hakuho 3 times in all 22 bouts.

But Baruto has beaten Hakuho 2 times in these 5 tournaments.

I think the reason why Baruto has reached to the top in this tournament,originated in the bout Baruto beat Yokozuna in last 2011 Nov tournament.

Its bout consists in Baruto improvement.

• Quick attack
• Not quitting attack
• Controlling opponent neck
• Heavy and well-target pushing
• Good step work
• "Haze Oshi"(pushing opponent armpit)
• Good reaction(not think much) and move instinctively

Baruto has to win to complete in "Zensho Yusho"(=no losses victory).

Hakuho has to show Yokozuna pride.

Baruto selected both arm pushing.

I think Hakuho positioned in farer than usual.

Hakuho seemed to expect Baruto pushing.

And Hakuho used his trunk softly and absorbed Baruto power.

Hakuho gripped Baruto left arm and did "Tottari"(=using leverage power).

Baruto was unbalansed and was fixed by Yokozuna's "Hidari Yotsu"(=left inside and right outside grip).Baruto could not grip belt.

Baruto attacked by left sukuinage but Hakuho finalized this bout.

I think Hakuho sumoed logically.

Wow!!!

Baruto did it!!!!!

Please watch his fight!!

Starting was really good!

Step forward was very fast.

But Baruto could not grip and hakuho got grip.

Baruto twitted himself with arm lock and neck control.

Baruto escaped hakuho's rythem.

Baruto showed "Makikae"(=outside to inside) and "Hazeoshi"(=pushing to armpit)

and "Nodowa"(=pushing to throat part).

Baruto could force Hakuho up completly!!!

And Baruto sensed Hakuho counter attack so Baruto twisted clockwise and pull down by left arm.

I think today baruto attacked and defended carefully.

Very smartly ,speedily and occasionally.

Day14 vs Hakuho (Kugatsu-Basho 2011)

Baruto meets yokozuna Hakuho today. Hakuho lost 2 (by Kotoshogiku,Kisenosato). Baruto showed his good sumo yesterday against harumafuji. Baruto has already lost 5 but ozeki should show his sprit as an Ozeki.

 We call this kind of power to power fight "O Sumo"(=grand sumo). Baruto was defeated but he showed his sumo. I think Baruto continue to do this starting and concentrate on gripping belt first. Ozeki Baruto L(Uwatedashinage)w Hakuho Yokozuna 9 wins 5 losts.

Day15 vs Hakuho(Nagoya-Basho 2011)

Harumafuji has already decided this tournament title of Makuuchi division Champion.

But today our interest is ,,,,of course,
Baruto vs Hakuho.

Baruto has defeated Yokozuna Hakuho once.
And Yokozuna this tournament is not real.
Hakuho challenged straight 8 champion of thournament but his challenge was stopped by yesterdays lost by Harumafuji.

We think Baruto has chance to overcome Yokozuna's wall.

Former Yokozuna Takanohana suggested "over 14 wins are must" after final day.
14 wins are very high condition.

11 wins are very important.Baruto got 11 wins.
As you know, the condition of promotion to Ozeki is 33 wins in 3 tournaments.
So 11 wins and defeating Yokozuna give a good impression for promotion to Yokozuna.
Anyway Baruto tried to change his starting style(not to push) and grip right otuside.
I think to promote to Yokozuna ,to brash up this tactic is good.

Day14 Baruto(10-3) meets Yokozuna Hakuho(12-1).

Hakuho lost yester by Harumafuji.

Tochinoshin won and kept 2 loses so Hakuho could not lose day after day.

Baruto could get the belt.

And Baruto tried his best in belt grip style.

Sorry for updating lately.

Championship race has 4 candidates before bouts today.

1 lose Hakuho and Toyonoshima.

2 loses Baruto and Kaio.

3 loses Goeido.

We have Hakuho vs Baruto and Toyonoshima vs Kaio.

If Hakuho or Toyonoshima win,Goeido is no more champion in this tournament.

Hakuho(now 12-1) was lost by Kisenosato.

Baruto(now11-2) was lost by Homasho and Toyonoshima.

Past result is Baruto got 1 win and 15 loses.

Baruto this tournament has not showed pushing style much.

But I hope Baruto show pushing style for Yokozuna.

because no chance is coming to baruto in "Yotsu-Sumo"(=grip belt each other) style,I think.

Baruto challenges Yokzuna Hakuho(12-0) today.

Hakuho keeps straight wins 59.

And if Hakuho wins today and lower rankers Yoshikzase(10-2) and Takekaze(10-2) lost today,

Hakuho gets Emperor's cup today.

Baruto had defeated Yokozuna only one time at 2010Jan tournament(click to video).

Past result 14 wins Hakuho and one win Baruto.

Hakuho showed "Yokozuna Sumo"(=Yokozuna should accept opponent attack and beats opponent completely).

Former Yokozuna Asashoru sometimes made a surprise attack at at starting.

So Hakuho's this style is really praised by Japanese sumo fans.

I went to Kokugikan to cheer up our Baruto!

I got a lot of message from Estonian sumo fans.

(Additionally I got emaii from I san with many vocie files!! Thank you so much)

I am not sure our voices reached to Baruto or not.

But I am convinced our challenge is never ended.

As you knew already,Baruto today could not show his sumo.

Hakuho pressed Baruto with full throttle.

What happened to you Baruto?

Many fans want to ask this.

But please wait now.

We can imagine great changes after ozeki promotion had occurred.

Mass media surrounded Baruto.

And Newspaper wrote Baruto would get Empero's trophy in this tournament.

Baruto had to attend many events.

All those things around Baruto pressed Baruto.

Specially Baruto lost his sumo style after lost bout with Kakuryu.

Baruto has looked hastening to win.

When we throw stone,we can trace parabolaic orbit.

After stone reaches the top,stone is going down.

We know stone lost his speed at the top.

I think man should be a challenger it is no limits of speed.

Baruto is now ozeki but ozeki rank brings no power.

Baruto and we re-mind we are challenger.

I think Yokozuna is top but not the goal.

Yokozuna is another name of "challenger " to pursue his sumo.

Day7 vs Hakuho (Hatsu-Basho 2010 Jan)

Yes,He did!!!!!!

Our Baruto defeated Yokozuna Hakuho!

Today is the day Baruto jumps up to next stage.

As we knew much, our Baruto has not gotten wins from both yokozunas.

And we have been wishing much Baruto to get win for Yokozunas.

Hakuho vs Baruto in the past were 11 wins's Hakuho vs 0 wins's Baruto.

But I think Hakuho feels something fear by Baruto.

Before this tournament,Hakuho answered to TV interview and he said,

"I have been polishing up "UCHIGAKE". When I meet a big wrestler,it is effective"

When I watched this interview,I can guess easily that Hakuho's big wrestler meant Baruto.

Do you remember?

Last bout took a long time. If Baruto did not wait much,there was possibility fro Baruto victory.

Hakuho defeated Baruto by way of "Uchigake" at last.

But I never heard a Yokozuna sharpens a tricky submission like "Uchigake"

Because Yokozuna should fight straight and receive opponent's skill fully and overpower opponent. This is Yokozuna.

I think Hakuho felt Baruto improving.

That was why Hakuho spoke about Uchigake unconsciously in the interview.

As for Baruto,Day5 and 6 bouts had a speed dash.

Baruto is becoming in excellent condition.

(Today I could not record HD video. I post low video......)

The point was Baruto re-got left arm under (="MAKIKAE")

and Baruto did not take time and threw immediately by "SUKUINAGE"

This is Baruto's first time to make victory for Yokozuna.

We had dreamt Baruto defeated Hakuho first time.

But there was a big wall between Baruto and Hakuho.

When Baruto reached left arm under to Hakuho belt,Baruto should rush forward.

But he couldn't rush.

For a lower ranker,to defeat Yokozuna, he has to choose tactic to make Yokozuna upset.

Day7 vs Hakuho (Gogatsu-Basho 2009 May)

Hakuho defeats opponents to perfection in this tournament.

His skill and speed and power are at full throttle now.

Baruto has never won against this yokozuna yet.

But Baruto showed his best in past two bouts against Hakuho.

The Kokugikan(name of stadium) 's spectaculars were heated-up!

Hakuho knows Yokozuna has to play like a champion in every fight.

Baruto showed a good start.

Hakuho recieved Baruto's full power.

Baruto got his style so that he pulled Hakuho once a little !!!

Baruto !!!! 

I shouted at full throttle!

When Baruto tried to pull again,Yokozuna  pushed Baruto's right thigh with doing right "uwatenage"

As you know, Baruto has a injury in his right ankle after first day bout.

Baruto lost his balance....at this moment.

But I think Baruto showed his best bout among all bouts in this tournament 

evev if he lost.

We need Baruto not to forget today's start  and his "Hidari-Yoysu" style.

Both Yokozuna Hakuho and Asashoryu shows speedy and sure bout every day.

Baruto challenge to push style everyday.
On first day,Baruto pushed Miyabiyama with crash sound.
Perfect win.
But Baruto has not get his pushing style yet.

As i comment everyday,My suggestion is wanting him to re-change to Yotu=grasp belt style.

I know every readers do not forget last tournament big bout with Hakuho.
Though Baruto lost, He did a good sumo.

Today's final match is Yokozuna Hakuho vs Sekiwake Baruto.
Final match is called "MUSUBI no ICHIBAN" in Japanese.

All sumo fans concentrates on this MUSUBI no ICHIBAN from this morning.

Until yesterday,Hakuho marked 8 wins and Baruto marked 7 wins 1 loss.
Past fight result was Hakuho defeated Baruto 6 times but no losses.

Baruto is changing his sumo ability to fighting evenly against top wrestlers.
Yes,we know. Today is the day Baruto defeats Hakuho first time.



Oh SUMO mainly means grand sumo tournament.
But we call long and beautiful and power vs power sumo bout "Oh Sumo".
Today's "Musubi no ICHIBAN" was "Oh SUMO"!!!

Baruto made himself Yotsu style.
It was right arm outside left arm inside.
This was not a perfect Baruto's Yotsu style but Baruto could come to his desirable breast to breast position.

Yokozuna could not cope with Baruto easily in this position.

Both pulled each other.
No change and long bout.

I think Baruto should rush forward before long bout.
I guess Baruto fought a little bit safely.

Anyway Every sumo fan in Japan was surprised Baruto's improving.

Hakuho is Mongolian Yokozuna.

He scored 9wins 1 loss until yesterday.

Our Baruto scored 8wins2losses until yesterday.

Total score between them is Baruto 0 win and Hakuho 5wins.

Hakuho's name(=shikona) means White(=haku) Big Bird(=ho).

Yes,Hakuho is Yokozuna,I recognize it again.

Hakuho's quick and lower start and skillful handling ,these all were much better than Baruto.

I think Baruto learned much through this match.
