2012　Grand Sumo Tournament Hatsu-Basho Day12.

Baruto(11-0) meets New Ozeki Kisenosato(9-2) today.
Baruto has defeated Kisenosato 17 times but only been defeated 3times.
Baruto continues 6 straight wins against Kisenosato.

The reason why Baruto has won a one-side is that their bout tend to be a power vs power fair one.And Baruto has overwhelmed Kisenosato completely.

But Kisenosato is improving.
I think Baruto feels it.
Last 2011 Nov. tournament,
Baruto showed us the differences in their ability.

What about today's bout?

As I said on  my archives yesterday,I was in Kokugikan in this moment.
My seat was "Sajiki"(=Japanese style box seat) category A West.

I could feel their real fight.

They needed couple of time before start.
Kisenosato set his position at a little bit farer than usual.
I thought Kisenosato would start with full power.

I think Baruto felt it and their  timing was not so good.

Baruto felt and moved quickly in a moment and shifted left and pulled down Kisenosato head by both arms.

Their bout finished in a second.

Baruto won!!















Spectaculars in Ryougokukokugikan could not react soon.

I think they had imagined power to power sumo.
But the bout they did was something tricky sumo.


But I was deeply moved.
Because Baruto sumoed instinctly.
New Baruto is breaking with old Baruto.


Baruto has never started "Henka" against Kisenosato.
Kisenosato had not imagined this "Henka" motion so he started with over rush and head down.
Baruto only reacted Kisenosato optimistic start.

I think Baruto this tournament sumoes very occasionally.
I think it is good.
Today's bout is very symbolistic new baruto sumo in a sense.

Baruto has reached to 12 wins.
3 days are left.

Someone says "Henka" is not a good sumo.

It means "Henka" is tricky.
But I think ,"the true reason of "Henka" habit is bad" is ,,,,,"Henka" sometimes break basic sumo skill.
Sumotori(=sumo wrestler) is facing to themselves everyday to skill up and sharpen their mind.

"Henka" sometimes leads Sumotori to easy way to win.
It is counter part of sumo.

But today's Baruto case is quite different.


We Baruto manias love you and are eager to watch you to get Emperor's Cup.

Baruto(5-0) vs Aminishiki(2-3).
Past 12-5 (3-0 /one year)

Baruto started to get grip maybe..
Aminishiki made his head downward.
Baruto pulled.
The timing was the best.

But Baruto shook his head.
Baruto looked unsatisfied.

Baruto sometimes showed this gesture before promoting Ozeki.
I liked this gesture because I hope Baruto chases  for his Sumo style.

I think this touranment Baruto is facing his sumo.

Wow!!!

Baruto did it!!!!!

Starting was really good!

Step forward was very fast.

But Baruto could not grip and hakuho got grip.

Baruto twitted himself with arm lock and neck control.

Baruto escaped hakuho's rythem.

Baruto showed "Makikae"(=outside to inside) and "Hazeoshi"(=pushing to armpit)

and "Nodowa"(=pushing to throat part).

Baruto could force Hakuho up completly!!!

And Baruto sensed Hakuho counter attack so Baruto twisted clockwise and pull down by left arm.

I think today baruto attacked and defended carefully.

Very smartly ,speedily and occasionally.

Kisenosato is fomous for breaking Yokozuna Hakuho straight wins.

Baruto this tournament has tried to get outside grip after pushing start.

Today Baruto also tried to grip but he missed and changed his tactics to pulling.

I think light pushing start and to grip outside is not bad.

Pulling is sometimes thought bad habit.

But most important is to win now.

Baruto meets Maegashira top contender Aminishiki.

Past was 5 win vs 9 wins.

Today is not easy opponent for Baruto.

Aminishiki does not have his sumo style.

He changed his strategy for each opponents.

Sometimes very tricky.

I think this was not Baruto wanted to do.

Grand Sumo Tournament Day6

Today's opponent Aminishiki is ranked Sekiwake.
He is a 31 years old and is no longer in the best season of Sumotories, I think.

As we know,the last bout between Baruto and Aminishiki was most close to Baruto's lost in the last tournament.

Aminishiki tried to push against Baruto's pushing.

Too much caution against Baruto's pushing made Aminishiki head down.

Baruto passed up Aminishiki's this head down posture.

Baruto pulled down Aminishiki.

Pulling is sometimes considered bad skill for right "Rikishi"

And pulling habit makes sometimes ruins good sumo style.

But this time pulling is through Baruto's carefull watching .

It is very important to keep head in a bout.

Everybody knows first day after ozeki promotion is very important.
If he wins,he can make a good start.
But if he loses,he can not ride on a good wave.

Tochinoshin is from Georgia.
He has a good traditional sumo skills.

Day11 vs Kotooshu (Kugatsu-Basho 2009 Sep)

After day10,Kotooshu and our Baruto marked 8 wins 2 loses.

Kotooshu's 2 loses were maegashira ranker Kakuryu and ozeki Kaio.

Baruo's 2 loses were yokozuna Asashoryu and Hakuho.

These facts leads to Baruto win,,,,,,.

But past one year results were Baruto's 2 wins 4 loses.

When baruto won,Kotooshu had a severe knee disability.

So 2 wins means nothing, I think.

When Baruto lost 4 ,his start style were 2 pushing(="Tuppari" or "Tsuki-oshi")

and 2 belt grabbing (="Yotsu).

This meant Baruto overthink to win.

His waist position was higher than last tournament.

Goeido was not good.
Now rush after Tachiai(=start) and Goeido was easy to be pulled by Baruto.

Today's Baruto got win very easily because of Goeido's condition.
