Ranking of 2013Jan was released

Japan Sumo Association press released Hars-Basho new ranking which will be held from 13th.Jan.　

BARUTO fell down his ranking to Sekiwake after 16 tournaments.

Kyokutenho has marked 100 tournaments career in Makuchi division ,it means he will be 5th record of career in Makuuchi division ,just passing by former Mitoizumi(now Nishikido oyakata).

New Konusubi Shohozan is the first sumo tori under former ozeki Wakashimazu(now Matasugane Oyakata) and and first sumo tori graduated from Komazwa Univ.

Baruto starts Keiko!!

Thank you for the comment from USA!! Today's sports newspaper reported, Baruto will be ranked Sekiwake in next new year tournament which starts 13th Jan. Baruto started Keiko(=training) on 19th Dec. after one month off. 24th Dec. is the day next ranking will be announced and Baruto think he train his basic physical first until 24th.Dec. Baruto got chip fracture in his right foot thumb last kyushu-basho. So he fell into 2 tournaments makekoshi. Baruto said to newspaper reporters first time after injury. "It can't be helped I fell down from Ozeki rank" "I had better think for future." "Now I never feel pain at all" He had left knee problem and this time right foot. It meant no more injury for Sumotori life. Baruto must concentrate on his rehabilitationprogram. And he had refresh time. Baruto visited Ueno Zoo with Elen his wife for the first time. He faced to Gorila and talked to Gorila "Can you win for me? Fifty percent,hahaha"with full smile. 　 "It is not easy way for reaching to 10 wins. But I only think I sumo in my own style." Baruto had experienced 3 times Yusho after absence of tournament. 2006 Oct 4wins 7 losses 4 absence in Maegashira #1. Left knee ligament injury. 2006 Nov 10wins 5 losses. 2007 Jan 2wins 2 losses 11 absence in Maegashira #3.Same part injury.Left knee. 2007 Mar Total absence. 2007 May 14 wins 1 loss in Jyuryou.Jyuryo Yusho. 2007 July 0 wins 2 losses 13 absence in Megashira #14.Same part injury. 2007 Sep Jyuryo Yusho. Harumafuji appears as a new Yokozuna,

Baruto faces to "Kadoban".
If he can get  "Kachikoshi",he falles to Sekiwake.

Baruto got injured in his right foot thumb in last tournament September.

Newspaper reported his thumb is not bad but he has not trained much for this tournament.

Today's opponent is Brazilian Kaisei.

Hakuho vs Baruto in Futeno Retirement Ceremony

Futeno is former Komusubi wrestler.
He had quit his sumotori carrer.
His retirement ceremony "Danpatsu-shiki" was held in Kokugikan on Jan.29th.

This ceremony had some programs.
Cutting "Oicho"(=wrestler's hair) ceremony
Jyuryo division matches
Makuuchi division matches and so on.

Baruto appeared on the ring as one of cutters.


About 150 cutters attended this ceremony and Futeno's stable master finally cut off "Mage".

Final program was makuuchi division matches.

Yokozuna Hakuho showed Yokozuna(=belt of Yokozuna) being tied.

Kitataiki ringed in with a baby.


Baruto wore rare "Kesho Mawashi"(ring in belt).

Last match of this ceremony was Hakuho vs Baruto


In this kind of ceremony,Rikishi showed straight power vs power bout.
Baruto could get "Hidari Yostu"(=left inside and right outside grip).
Power vs power bout concluded in Baruto win!!!

Baruto beat Yokozuna Hakuho by Yorikiri.

This was not official bout,I know.
But I am very happy!!!

I have not met Baruto yet.
I am only a fan of Baruto.
And I do not know he has read my blog or not.

But I am really happy he has gotten Emperor's Cup at last.
I think all readers of my blog thnk so,too.

I believe he becomes Yokozuna and is to be memorized his name  as a new type sumoyori than ever before.

Day15 Hakuho vs Baruto (Hatsu-Basho 2012 Jan)

平成２４年　大相撲　初場所　千秋楽　両国国技館。

2012 Jan Grand Sumo Tournament Hatsu-Basho Day15 (final day).

Baruto(14-0) has Yokozuna Hakuho(12-3) today final day.

Baruto has beaten Hakuho 3 times in all 22 bouts.

But Baruto has beaten Hakuho 2 times in these 5 tournaments.

I think the reason why Baruto has reached to the top in this tournament,originated in the bout Baruto beat Yokozuna in last 2011 Nov tournament.

Its bout consists in Baruto improvement.

• Quick attack
• Not quitting attack
• Controlling opponent neck
• Heavy and well-target pushing
• Good step work
• "Haze Oshi"(pushing opponent armpit)
• Good reaction(not think much) and move instinctively

Baruto has to win to complete in "Zensho Yusho"(=no losses victory).

Hakuho has to show Yokozuna pride.

44 flags for prize.

(winner gets all prize.one flag=￥50,000-. total ￥2,200,000-)

Baruto selected both arm pushing.

I think Hakuho positioned in farer than usual.

Hakuho seemed to expect Baruto pushing.

And Hakuho used his trunk softly and absorbed Baruto power.

Hakuho gripped Baruto left arm and did "Tottari"(=using leverage power).

Baruto was unbalansed and was fixed by Yokozuna's "Hidari Yotsu"(=left inside and right outside grip).Baruto could not grip belt.

Baruto attacked by left sukuinage but Hakuho finalized this bout.

I think Hakuho sumoed logically.

2012 Grand Sumo Tournament Day13 at Ryougokokugikan.

Baruto(12-0) meets Kotoshogiku(7-5).
Kotoshogiku who is in second tournament after Ozeki promotion, lost his sumo.
I think he had to be appeared to Media many times after last tournament.
He is lack of "Keiko"(=training).

Record is Baruto 17 wins against Kotoshogiku only 3 wins.
Baruto has beat 6 times per last 6 tournaments.
Baruto beat Kotoshogiku by Yorikiri in 2011 Nov tournament.

10 flags were appeared.
Baruto started with "Haridashi"(=slap).
And soon got his favorite style "Hidari Yotsu"(=left inside right outside grips).
Baruto outside grip was positioned far.
It meant it was hard to lift up opponent.
But Baruto lifted up Kotoshogiku!!
It was amazing.

Baruto lifted up and down  and made Kotoshogiku lost balance and threw Kotoshogiku completely by left inside.

Baruto this tournament never quits his attacking.

Day12 Baruto vs Kisenosato (Hatsu-Basho 2012 Jan)

2012　Grand Sumo Tournament Hatsu-Basho Day12.

Baruto(11-0) meets New Ozeki Kisenosato(9-2) today.
Baruto has defeated Kisenosato 17 times but only been defeated 3times.
Baruto continues 6 straight wins against Kisenosato.

The reason why Baruto has won a one-side is that their bout tend to be a power vs power fair one.And Baruto has overwhelmed Kisenosato completely.

But Kisenosato is improving.
I think Baruto feels it.
Last 2011 Nov. tournament,
Baruto showed us the differences in their ability.

What about today's bout?

As I said on  my archives yesterday,I was in Kokugikan in this moment.
My seat was "Sajiki"(=Japanese style box seat) category A West.

I could feel their real fight.

They needed couple of time before start.
Kisenosato set his position at a little bit farer than usual.
I thought Kisenosato would start with full power.

I think Baruto felt it and their  timing was not so good.

Baruto felt and moved quickly in a moment and shifted left and pulled down Kisenosato head by both arms.

Their bout finished in a second.

Baruto won!!















Spectaculars in Ryougokukokugikan could not react soon.

I think they had imagined power to power sumo.
But the bout they did was something tricky sumo.


But I was deeply moved.
Because Baruto sumoed instinctly.
New Baruto is breaking with old Baruto.


Baruto has never started "Henka" against Kisenosato.
Kisenosato had not imagined this "Henka" motion so he started with over rush and head down.
Baruto only reacted Kisenosato optimistic start.

I think Baruto this tournament sumoes very occasionally.
I think it is good.
Today's bout is very symbolistic new baruto sumo in a sense.

Baruto has reached to 12 wins.
3 days are left.

Someone says "Henka" is not a good sumo.

It means "Henka" is tricky.
But I think ,"the true reason of "Henka" habit is bad" is ,,,,,"Henka" sometimes break basic sumo skill.
Sumotori(=sumo wrestler) is facing to themselves everyday to skill up and sharpen their mind.

"Henka" sometimes leads Sumotori to easy way to win.
It is counter part of sumo.

But today's Baruto case is quite different.


We Baruto manias love you and are eager to watch you to get Emperor's Cup.

Baruto selected double arms pushing and launched high speed pushing.

Pushing form was very beautiful.

Elbows were extended and sent full power to Harumafuji.

Baruto seemed to be gotten right shoulder injury yesterday but it did not influenced him today.

The distance was good.

Baruto targeted to Harumafuji's chin and let Harumafuji's head and body up.

Baruto started in "Haridashi" and gripped right outside easily.
Baruto did not give Toyonoshima time to think and threw by right outside with locking Toyonoshima neck by left hand.
Baruto completely turned up Toyonoshima.

I think Baruto sumoes rythmically and automatically in this tournament.
10 straight wins  is same record as 2010 spring tournament one which Baruto made Ozeki promotion.

Everybody knows Baruto this tournament sumoes well.
8 straight wins are his first time record.
Baruto seems to think "Yusho" is not the point.
Baruto keeps  concentrating on every bout.
And this is why his sumo is getting better.

Maegashira #3 Takayasu is first met by Baruto.
Takayasu markes 4-4.
His stable is Naruto Beya which is same stable as Ozeki Kisenosato.
He is a pusher.He showed a good pushing yesterday against Yokozuna.

Baruto started with pushing.
Step works were very nice.
It made his pushing effective.
Baruto targeted to Takayasu breast completely.

Perfect win.

I had mentioned Baruto should step with "Suriashi" and attack with low waist position.

His step work today was perfect.
His waist position looks still high but now his waist position fits on his attacking .
style.

After bout,Baruto took care of his right arm.
I wonder he got injury...

Baruto records 4 wins o losses against Kitataiki.
Kitataiki means North(="kita") Big(="tai") Tree(="ki").
Kitataiki belongs to Kitanoumi stable.
Kitanoumi is former "Rijicho" of "Sumo Kyokai" and legend Yokozuna in 70's.
Anyway Kitataiki is not a tricky type.

Baruto started to grip belt,not pushing.
And got right outside grip easily.
Baruto could control Kitataiki movemnet and throw him completely.
