Day15 vs Kotooshu (Kugatsu-Basho 2010 Sep)

GRAND SUMO TOURNAMENT KUGATSU-BASHO DAY15 (final day="Senshuraku")

Baruto has Ozeki Kotooshu today.
Both are 9-5.
And both ozeki suddenly lost their sumo after day9.
Until day8,Kotooshu was 8-0 and Baruto was 7-1.

Why both ozekis makes slow down after mid day in every basho?
Some Japanese fans think their mentality influences their performances.

I have no idea.
But 10 wins are must for an Ozeki ranker.

Baruto chose pushing start.
I think this was nice.
But lower stability and step works were not excellent when Kotooshu pulled back.
Baruto lost his balance...

Ozwki BARUTO ×(YORIKIRI)○ KOTOOSHU Ozeki

9 wins 6 loses.

What does Baruto need for sharpening his sumo?
  • Lower Stability
  • Step works
  • Weight contorol (I felt this tournament Baruto Over weight than his best)

I mentioned many times.
I know he has left knee injury.
And I know Baruto knows more than me.

He has talent to be a Yokozuna.
I hope Baruto do his best in the next tournament.
We love you ,Baruto!!

Day14 vs Harumafuji(Kugatsu-Basho 2010 Sep)

GRAND SUMO TOURNAMENT KUGASTU-BASHO DAY14

Sorry to update late.
Baruto has Ozeki Harumafuji today.
Baruto showed a good concentration on starting.
Pushing with full power was brought by lower stability.
And pushing pointwas very effective today.
Not bad.

Ozeki BARUTO ○(TSUKITAOSHI)× HARUMAFUJI Ozeki

9wins 5 loses.
We need one more win,BAruto!
Baruto takes on Ozeki Kotooshu on final day.

Yokozuna Hakuho won today,so he became this tournament champion today.

Day13 vs Hakuho (Kugatsu-Basho 2010 Sep)

Grand Sumo Tournament Kugatsu-Basho Day13

Baruto challenges Yokzuna Hakuho(12-0) today.
Hakuho keeps straight wins 59.
And if Hakuho wins today and lower rankers Yoshikzase(10-2) and Takekaze(10-2) lost today,
Hakuho gets Emperor's cup today.

Baruto had defeated Yokozuna only one time at 2010Jan tournament(click to video).
Past result 14 wins Hakuho and one win Baruto.

Hakuho showed "Yokozuna Sumo"(=Yokozuna should accept opponent attack and beats opponent completely).
Former Yokozuna Asashoru sometimes made a surprise attack at at starting.
So Hakuho's this style is really praised by Japanese sumo fans.

Anyway our Baruto was completely defeated.......

8 wins 5 loses.
Baruto meets Ozeki Harumafuji tomorrow and Ozeki Kotooshu on last day.

Ozeki BARUTO ×(UWATENAGE)○ HAKUHO Yokozuna

Gambatte ! Baruto!!

Tournament leader:Hakuho(13-0)

Day12 vs Aminishiki (Kugatsu-Basho 2010 Sep)

GRAND SUMO TOURNAMENT KUGATSU-BASHO DAY12

Baruto today takes on Aminishiki. He is 31 years old Maegashira #4.
Aminishiki has knee injury but his tricky start and skill are still alive.
Aminishiki has already beat Kotooshu in this tournament.
A (安)means safty.
Mi(美) means beauty.
Nishiki(錦) means brocade.

Uuuuuuh!
Baruto pushed but aminishiki took side steps.
Baruto lost target.
Baruto this tournament pushing lost its power.
I guess Baruto has knee injury and he could not bring power to pushing.
So Aminishiki had time to take side steps.

Ozeki BARUTO ×(OKURIDASHI)○ AMINISHIKI Megashira #4

8 wins 4 loses.

Baruto has Yokozuna Hakuho tomorrow.
Japnanese sumo fans think Hakuho never lose.
But Baruto is only Yokozuna candidate now.

You must win!!

Day11 vs Kakuryu (Kugatsu-Basho 2010 Sep)

GRAND SUMO TOURNAMENT KUGATSU-BASHO DAY11

Baruto takes on Komusubi Kakuryu(7-4).
Kakuryu is from Mongol and this is his second time Komusubi ("Kaeri-Komusubi").
Kakuryu means Kaku(鶴)is crane and Ryu(竜) is dragon.
Baruto lost last time in May tournament,he chose pushing start to Kakuryu.(click to vdeo)

Baruto started with a little bit higher waist position and did not push.
Baruto took both outside grip but smaller Kakuryu was very attached to Baruto.
The body size gap this time went against Baruto.
Baruto tried to lift Kakuryu but his waist position was very high and it gave him unstabile.
Kakuryu only did "Sotogake"....

I think this tournament Baruto chose start style push or grip for opponent style.
Smaller opponent case, he chose grip.
Big target opponent case, he schose push.

Very simple tactic, I think.

When Baruto got 14 wins at 2010May Gogatsu-Basho tournament,
Baruto did not hesitate to push.

Ozeki BARUTO ×(SOTOGAKE)○ KAKURYU Komusubi
8 wins 3 loses.

Never give up ,Baruto!

Day10 vs Kyokutenho (Kugatsu-Basho 2010Sep)

Grand Sumo Tournament Kugastu-Basho DAY10

Baruto has Maegashira #3 ranker Kyokutenho.
Kyokutenho is very veteran wrestler from Mongol.
Past result is 8-4 for Baruto.

Baruto started with "Nodowa"(=pushing throat ) and took right outside grip.
Baruto perfectly got his style.
Kyokutenho could not do anything in this "Yotsu-Sumo"(=grip each other)

Baruto stpped forward with pulling up Kyokutenho.

Baruto won this tournament "Kachi-Koshi"(=over 8 wins).

Ozeki BARUTO ○(TSURIDASHI)× KYOKUTENHO Maegashira #3

Day9 vs Kaio (Kugatsu-Basho 2010 Sep)

GRAND SUMO TOURNAMENT KUGATSU-BASHO DAY9 (Monday)

Baruto takes on Ozeki Kaio.
Kaio is now 4-4 and if lost this tournament,he falls down to Sekiwake next tournament.
Past result is 6 wins Baruto and 5 wins Kaio.

Uuuuum.
Kaio took Baruto's "Nodowa" arm.
It is called "Watashi komi"
This is Kaio's killer skill.
Sometims Kaio showed "Kotenage" in the same scheme.

Kaio step side and attacked Baruto left side .
Baruto completely lost his balance.

Ozeki BARUTO○(OKURIDASHI)×KAIO Ozeki

Day8 vs Tochiozan (Kugatsu-Basho 2010 Sep)

Grand Sumo Tournament Kugatsu-basho DAY8 ("NAKA-BI"=mid day)

Baruto takes on Sekiwake Tochiozan (6-1).
Tochiozan this tournament starts very quickly and rushes with lower position.

Baruto showed "Haridashi"(=slap opponent cheek at start) and stopped Tochiozan rushing.
And got right outside grip!!

Baruto made his body lower with his head lower (="Atama wo tukeru) and also "Ottuke"(=tighten arms and push opponent armpit).
Tochiozan could not keep his body lower and Baruto pushed Tochis' breast easily.
Finally Baruto aggressively pushed Tochi after ring out ("Dame-dashi).

These days Baruto showed this kind of aggressive manner.
Baruto is considered as a vey gentle and polite wrestler than others.
So some Japanese sumo fans are surprised ,others think Baruto's this change is menace Baruto feels Ozeki rank responsibility and his will to get Emperor's trophy.

I think Baruto is getting better for 2 days bouts.
Step work and body position were paid attention.

Ozeki BARUTO ○(OSHIDASHI)× TOCHIOZAN sekiwake

Tomorrow Baruto has Ozeki Kaio.

Day7 vs Tochinoshin (Kugatsu-Basho 2010 Sep)

Grand Sumo Touranmaent Kugatsu-Bahso Day 7

Baruto meets Georgian Tochinoshin.
Japanese sumo fans think his sumo style is a traditional sumo style.
His stable "Kasugano" is very famous as strict.

I think this bout is the Baruto's best one in this tournament.
Step works were really getting better.
Pushing power was carried from lower body stability.

Ozeki BAUTO ○(OSHIDASHI)× TOCHINOSHIN Maegashira#2

6 wins 1 lose!!

Tomorrow Baruto meets sekiwake 6-1 Tochiozan.
Tochiozan this tournament keeps his good start and lower postion rushing.

Day6 vs Aran (Kugatsu-Basho 2010Sep)

Grand Sumo Tournament Kugatsu-Basho Day6

Baruto meets Rusian Sekiwake Aran.
Both European Rikishi(=wrestler) are full of incredible power.
I think Gerogian Tochinoshin is classical sumo type.
But Aran and Baruto use their body size merit.

Today's Baruto pushed Aran after he off the ring.("dame dashi")
Baruto actually never does this kind of dame dashi.
I think Aran expressed much aggressive attitude to baruto during start.

Anyway Baruto keeps 1 lose.
Hakuho is unbeatable yokozuna keeping straight win.
But we know Baruto is the man to stop Hakuho in this turnament.

Past result is Baruto 7 wins to Homasho 1 win.
Last bout in 2010may Baruto defeated Homasho by Tsuridashi.(click to video)

Today's Baruto really rushed well.
He did not grip belt but did a good "Ottuke" (=tighten armpits) and rush.

I think Baruto is getting better to his top condition.
But his step work was still not good.

Grand Sumo Tournament Kugatsu-Basho Day4

Baruto meets Kotoshogiku today.
Past result is Baruto marked 8 wins 7 loses.
Kotoshogiku is not easy opponent.
Last July tournament Baruto lost by Kotoshogiku's "Katasukashi"(Click to video)

Baruto chose "Yotsu-sumo".
We know Baruto chooses pushing start when the opponent is large target.
He easily got right ouside grip.
Grip position was very far and this was why Kotoshogiku could not made Baruto's grip off .

Last bou in July Tournament (Click t video) was "Yotsu-Sumo"(=grip belts each other).

Baruto succeeded in starting and rapid pushing(="Tsuki Hanshi").
Pushing today was full of power.
Waist position and stepping work has still a room of improvement.

Grand Sumo Tournament Kugatsu-Basho (2010Sep) DAY2

Baruto meets East Komusubi Kisenosato.
Kisenosato has been thought as a next Ozeki for a few years.
But he could not keep " Sanyaku"
When he wins,he looks like a upper than Ozeki.
But when he lost,he looks lower rankers.
Baruto started well.
And pushed Kisenosato away with full power.
But his step works were not good.
As I mentioned many times,Baruto's step work is sometime hopping.
Sumo step works should be "Suri-Ashi".
You can understand this step work in Hakuho's.
He never hops .

Grand Sumo Tournament Aki(=Autumn) or Kugatsu(=September) Basho begins today.

New leader Hanaregoma Oyakata (=former Ozeki Kaiketsu) presented his declare to clean up connection with gang.
NHK decided to broadcast live TV in this tournament.
And Emperor's cup is back.

Last tournament Baruto was not good contrary to our expectation.
How about this tournament.

The point is Baruto stop Hakuho's continuous wins(now 47wins).

First day Baruto meets Maegashira #1 Wakanosato.
Wakanosato is not tricky type.
I think Baruto focus easily.

Perfect win.
Pushing arm was always tight inside.
