Sekiwake Baruto got 12th wins and Ozeki promotion becomes almost certain.

It is commonly said a standard to promote to Ozeki is 33 wins in 3 tournaments.

Baruto has reached it and already defeated 3 ozekis.

Tomozuna (former sekiwake Kaiki) chief referee division said,

"He is really strong. 12wins are not not enough.There is no obstacle for Baruto to promote to Ozeki now."

Musashigawa (former Yokozuna Mienoumui) rijichou (=top of sumo kyokai) said,

"His sumo is same as Ozeki level."

The matter of promotion to Ozeki,Yokozuna is needed　the approval of Rijikai(board of director).

Referee division which works for ranking requests Rijicho to have a special Rijikai in a day or two.

I think Baruto vs Miyabiyama impacts them.

33wins is only standard.and Baruto had passed this last tournament.

Miyabiyama is a former ozeki age 32.

Miyabiyama means

"Miyabi"=elegance,graceful

"Yama"=mountain.

His sumo style is a push and rusher.

Baruto targeted Miyabiyama's neck.

It is called "Nodowa"(=pushing with finger circled around throat).

Baruto suceeded in making Miyabiyama unbalanced.

Steppng forward pressure was very high.

Finally Baruto crashed down Miyabiyama by "Tsukitaoshi".

We can feel Baruto improving his pushing style in this tournament.

Evrery sumo fans think he is a real ozeki than now ozekis.

This morning newspaper reported Baruto could not lock on ozeki promotion.

Because Baruto was defeated completely yesterday by Yokozuna.

Some papers said Baruto's promotion signal light yellow....

Today Baruto meets Harumafuji.

2 continuous looses is not good for promotion.

Past result was 6 wins Baruto and 7 wins Harumafuji.

But last 3 tournament results were 3 wins Baruto.

Harumafuji was lost yesterday by ozeki Kotomitsuki.

9wins 2 looses. Harumafuji has to win today to survive on cup race.

Kaio is breaking the record of Winning number at Makuuchi division everyday.

Kaio is 37 years old ozeki and having 185cm tall and 169 kg.

Kaio is considered as a top Japanes sumotori.

Excellent tactics.

Baruto tried to grip "Maemitsu"(=front part of belt).

But he could not,so changed to "Tsuppari"(=arm pushing like wind mill ).

He once made Kaio's posture upward ,immediately he pulled Kaio.

But he could not submitted,so he got left outside grip,,

soon threw "Dashinage"to made Kaio unbalanced.

And attached his body to Kaio

and went forward with "Hikitsuke"(=pulled belt to make unballanced).

Step work was also taken care about gliding steps(="Suriashi")

I was specially interrested in his continuous attacking.

Baruto has defeated Kyokutenho 6times and been defeated 4 times in the past.

Kyokutenho means Morning sky stork.

Baruto adjusted his starting and step work.

I love this Baruto style.

Starting(="Tachiai") with quick step forward,lower position,his jaw drawn.

Timing to step froward was good when Kyokutenho tried "Makikae (=change arm outside to inside).

Step work with "SURIASHI"(=gliding steps).

Perfect style.

Our Baruto meets Kakuryu.

Kakuryu is from Mongol and his "Shiko Na"(=ring name) means Crane Dragon.

Crane is a symbol of wellness and happiness.

Dragon is a symbol of promotion in Japan.

Kakuryu is now ranked Maegashira #4

We can not underestimate him.

Very bad start.

His eyes were closed and very high position.

He looled hesitating to push or grip.

I think his pushing style in this tournamnet has bee remarkable.

But sometimes opponent had changed at starting.

So Baruto could not have confidence in his starting.

Baruto lost his target and went straight to the edge of ring.

Most of spectaculars except Baruto thought it was the end.

He stopped and turned around quickly.

He somehow managed to deal with Kakuryu rushing power.

This quick recovering is evidence of daily training("=Keiko").

Baruto could grip belt and shifted Kakuryu to the edge.

Baruto meets Sekiwake Toyonosima.

Toyonoshima gained 3 wins until yesterday.

Past result between them were 7 wins' baruto to only 1 win's Toyonoshima.

We can recall last tournament bout which Baruto was defeated by Toyonoshima first time.

Baruto succeeded in revenge.

Baruto pushed with both arm at starting.

Grand Sumo Tournament Haru-Basho Day3

Today Baruto meets East Komusubi Kisenosato.(I rewrote Sekwake to Komusubi cause of fault just Ivar san suggested).

Kisenosato is considered as a next Ozeki for several years.

He has talent but he has not kept "San Yaku"(=upper than komusubi rank)

Something like Up and Down.

Baruto selected Pushing and rushing style.

Good choice.

Kisenosato tried pushing down Baruto.

But Baruto took care and did not miss the target.

We can see Baruto to concentrate on bout every day.

Day2 vs Goeido (Haru-Basho 2010 Mar)

Goeido is from Osaka where now Haru-Basho is held.

A lot of fans called his name in this bout.

Baruto's finger injury influenced this bout.

Baruto did not grasp opponent belt today also.

I think Baruto seems to decide not to grassp belt.

But this tactics was not bad.

Because Baruto today and yesterday showed good "Ottuke"(=tight arm)

As I had mentioned until last tournament,his loose arm was his weak point.

But Baruto this tournament did good.

Something unexpected is happening because of finger injury.

Day1 vs Aran (Haru-Basho 2010 Mar)

Grand Sumo Tournament Haru-Basho (=spring tournament) has begun.

Haru-Basho is held in Osaka where is located in the middle of Japan.

Baruto challenges Ozeki promotion in this tournament.

Nihon Sumo Kyokai officially announced Baruto's ozeki promotion challenge tournament.

Baruto meets Aran today.

This is their first met.

As I reported before,Baruto has injury in his left thumb.

So taping was rolled around his left finger thumb today.

First day is very important.

Baruto looked full of concentration from beginning.

On Tachiai(=start) Aran showed tricky body change.

But Baruto did not upset.

Baruto rushed without left grabbing.

I think it was because his thumb injury.

Baruto got first win!!

Baruto has to plus wins day by day at least until 13 wins.

Go for Ozeki,Baruto.
